Several U.S. refiners, including CVR Energy, Marathon, Phillips 66 and HollyFrontier, are accelerating plans to convert facilities to renewable diesel made from used cooking oil and soybean oil. The shift is driven by weak gasoline demand from the pandemic and by low carbon fuel incentives.
Refiners switching to vegetable oil and grease feedstocks increases competition for soybean oil and other fats, which supports vegetable oil prices and can tighten supply for feed use.
