USDA's Cattle on Feed report showed 12.0 million head on feed on December 1, 2020, slightly above a year earlier. November placements totaled 1.91 million head, 9% below 2019, and marketings were 1.78 million head, 2% below 2019.
Placements well below last year point to tighter feeder supply and firmer fed cattle prices into 2021. Lower feeder demand can also reduce calf and feeder prices in the near term.
