The dollar extended gains on March 19 to a more than one-week high after the Fed said it would let a temporary bank leverage rule exemption expire on March 31. The move pushed U.S. Treasury yields off their lows, and the dollar index had risen about 3.3% since early January.
A stronger dollar tied to rising U.S. yields tends to pressure dollar-denominated commodity prices and can tighten financing conditions for importers.
