Vietnam has started buying 5% and 10% broken rice from India to meet domestic needs, including supply for its defence forces and industrial users. A USDA report cited Vietnamese purchases of 100% broken Indian rice at $310 per tonne, well below Vietnam's own offers.
Monthly Vietnamese imports are reported at around 100,000 tonnes.
Vietnam's shift toward higher-grade Indian rice adds export demand for India and may cap Vietnamese prices. Continued buying supports Indian export prices.
