The US dollar rallied in September, while the yuan recorded its largest gain in eight months on a trade-weighted basis. The gauge tracking China's currency against 24 peers showed other currencies weakened more against the dollar than the tightly managed yuan.
A firmer yuan modestly eases the cost of dollar-priced imports for China, but the effect on feed commodity prices is small. A stronger dollar generally pressures dollar-denominated grain prices.
