Arkansas produced a 183 bushel per acre corn average in 2021 despite June flooding and storms. Farmers expanded grain sorghum planting to 90,000 acres from 12,000 in 2020, and winter wheat acreage was also set to rise.
A larger sorghum and wheat area in Arkansas adds to domestic supply of feed grains, which weighs on regional prices. Corn output remained strong, so the effect on the national corn balance is small.
