A USDA Foreign Agricultural Service report says global fertilizer prices are near record levels and may stay elevated through 2022 and beyond. It notes fertilizer is 36% of corn operating costs and 35% of wheat costs, and that Russia's invasion of Ukraine has tightened supply and triggered trade restrictions.
Higher nitrogen, phosphate and potash costs raise feed-grain production costs and could cut acreage or yields in 2023, supporting corn and wheat prices over the longer term.
