Richardson, Viterra, Cargill and others plan to add 7.8 million tonnes of Canadian canola crushing capacity, with about 4.6 million tonnes due in 2024. Canada is forecast to export 8.8 million tonnes in 2023-24, and some export decline is expected.
Much of the new domestic demand will absorb canola that would otherwise be exported, reducing export supply and supporting domestic canola and meal prices.
