CME December lean hog futures fell for a second day to a four-month low of 69.5 cents/lb after a USDA report showed pigs saved per litter up about 4.3% year over year, above analyst expectations. Hog futures had dropped nearly 8% since that report, while cattle futures gained modestly.
A bigger-than-expected supply estimate signals more pork ahead, which pressures lean hog prices and feeds into lower prices for feed grains demand from the hog sector.
