Researchers at the Autonomous University of Chapingo unveiled progress on non-GM yellow corn seed varieties intended to replace imports. The project targets about 6 million of Mexico's 18 million tonnes of annual US corn imports within two years, with testing in 2024 and release in 2025.
Replacing a third of Mexico's corn imports over the long run would be bearish for US corn export demand, though the timeline is distant and the effect is not yet priced in.
