France's farm ministry expects a sharp fall in winter cereal sowing after heavy autumn rain disrupted field work. The soft wheat area for 2024 is projected at 4.49 million hectares, down 5.1% and a four-year low, while winter barley is pegged at 1.31 million hectares, down 4.0%.
Durum planting is also seen falling 10.5%, and winter rapeseed area held steady.
