The rupiah closed weaker against the dollar on Monday, falling 75.5 points to 16,358 after Trump announced a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminium imports. China's retaliatory tariffs on US goods also took effect that day, and the dollar index rose to 108.3.
Broad new tariffs and retaliation raise trade-war risk for agricultural exports and weaken emerging-market currencies, raising feed import costs for Indonesia.
