NPPC economist Holly Cook said pork producer profitability improved significantly over the past year, with 2024 farrow-to-finish returns averaging a negative $1 per hog but positive from April onward. USDA forecasts a 2.7% rise in 2025 pork production and a 4.0% rise in hog prices.
Expected higher hog prices and lower feed costs support producer margins and the demand for feed. Pork supply growth of 2.7% is a modest offset.
