Shipowners raised freight rates slightly for Ukrainian grain exports in late February, according to the Ukrainian Grain Association. Panamax corn rates to South China were about $33-34/t, up $2/t week on week, and handysize rates to Italy rose to $16-17/t.
Barge rates on the Danube were unchanged.
Higher Black Sea freight raises the delivered cost of Ukrainian corn and wheat into Asia and Europe, supporting export prices for competing origins. The increase is modest and mainly reflects tight vessel availability.
