On 22 May the European Commission classified Belarus, Myanmar, North Korea and Russia as high-risk countries under the deforestation regulation, based on sanctions. Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia and Malaysia are in the standard category, and Member State checks vary by risk level.
Checks at 9% of imports from high-risk origins could slow some trade, but Russia's agricultural exports are only lightly affected, so the price impact is small.
