A rare winter storm from January 20-22, 2025 brought heavy snow to the US Gulf Coast, prompting ADM and other exporters in south Louisiana to temporarily halt grain vessel loading. Operations at major export elevators resumed by January 24, but 23 vessels were loaded in the week ending January 23 versus a 28-per-week average.
Temporary export elevator closures delayed vessel loadings and barge unloads at New Orleans, which can pressure Gulf basis and freight in the short term while cash bids recover.
