The USDA AMS Grain Transportation Report shows rail originations, barge movements and Gulf vessel loadings all higher year over year. Gulf-to-Japan ocean grain rates rose 1% to $46.25 per metric ton, and unshipped corn and soybean export balances were 17.98 million tons, up 18%.
Strong vessel loadings and rising ocean rates suggest firm export demand and tighter Gulf shipping space. Higher freight costs narrow the net return on US grain sold to Asia.
