A Lancet Respiratory Medicine commentary says H5N1 infected seven more US farm workers, four in California and three in Washington. This raised the 2024 US human case count to 46.
It also reports the first known H5N1 infection in a US pig, on an Oregon farm, and a severe human case in Canada.
Spread across dairy, poultry and other species raises the risk of further farm disruption and tighter biosecurity. Price effects so far are not clear from this commentary.
