The Malaysian Palm Oil Association asked the government to factor rising crude palm oil production costs into its review of the windfall profit levy. It also asked for a review of the doubled levy rate for Sabah and Sarawak, which was imposed in 2022.
Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Maslan said the government is prepared to review the windfall profit threshold.
A lower levy or higher threshold would leave more margin for Malaysian producers, which could support output over time. The effect on prices is limited until the review outcome is known.
