Canada's Clean Fuel Regulation became law in July 2022 and requires lower carbon intensity in transport fuels each compliance year. Canadian ethanol and renewable fuel imports from the US rose sharply in 2022 in anticipation of the rules.
The regulation favors low-carbon fuels such as renewable diesel, supporting demand for vegetable oils and ethanol and boosting US biofuel exports to Canada.
