Analyst Jeff Peterson of Heartland Farm Partners says abnormally wet conditions in southern Brazil could slow first-crop corn planting. Dry conditions in northern Brazil could also delay soybean planting and therefore the safrinha corn crop, which makes up about 75% of Brazil's output.
Delays in Brazilian corn planting could shift domestic ethanol use and push demand toward U.S. corn exports this fall, supporting U.S. corn prices. The effect depends on how the weather develops over the coming weeks.
