Purdue agronomist Bob Nielsen explains that an early-season heat spell in the Corn Belt does not automatically cut corn yield potential. Plant population and kernel number are set by about the V12-V14 growth stage, so the effect depends on timing and conditions.
Late-planted fields remain vulnerable to stand loss.
