USDA's October Crop Production report raised its 2026 U.S. corn yield estimate to 181.2 bpa from 178.5 in September, above analyst expectations of about 177.7. The soybean yield was lifted to a record 53.1 bpa.
Corn futures fell more than 20 cents to an eight-week low, while soybeans initially dropped before closing higher.
A larger-than-expected crop signals ample 2027 corn supply and undercuts the weather-risk premium built up over the summer, pressuring corn prices. Soybean prices were steadier because the record yield offset bearish initial reaction.
