The Wall Street Journal reports that diesel prices have surged about 20% since the start of the previous week. The rise coincides with renewed US-Iran conflict over control of the Strait of Hormuz and fears of a diesel shortfall after Russia's export ban.
A diesel shortfall would lift transport and fertilizer costs and could add to inflation pressure. Higher energy costs are passed through to feed ingredient logistics and farm input budgets.
