The FAO Food Price Index averaged 130.7 points in April, up 1.6% from March and the third monthly gain in a row. The cereal index rose 0.8%, with higher wheat and maize prices tied to US drought, dry conditions in Brazil and Australia, and expected lower wheat plantings due to fertilizer costs.
Rising global cereal prices and firm maize and wheat demand raise feed grain costs for buyers. Higher energy and fertilizer costs continue to feed through into grain prices.
