India's December 2022 palm oil imports rose 94% from a year earlier to a record 1.1 million tonnes for the month, as palm oil's discount to rival oils widened and refiners increased purchases. Imports for the December quarter reached a record 3.1 million tonnes, according to dealers.
Strong Indian buying helps Indonesia and Malaysia reduce inventories, supporting palm oil prices, although the narrowing discount to soyoil may limit further gains.
