The euro continued to decline on expectations of potential Trump tariffs. Political uncertainty in Germany, following the collapse of Chancellor Olaf Scholz's governing coalition, also weighed on the currency and the dollar hit a one-year high.
A firmer dollar on tariff and political risk supports a stronger currency for US exporters' competitors to price against, and can pressure US commodity prices quoted in dollars.
