TMB Bank forecasts the Thai baht will weaken to 36.5 per dollar in the first half of 2017 before strengthening to 35.5 by year-end. The bank expects the dollar to keep appreciating in the first half as markets price in Trump's growth policies and multiple Fed rate hikes.
It doubts Trump can deliver the growth expected, which could weaken the dollar in the second half.
A forecast of a weaker baht in the first half would raise the local-currency cost of US-priced feed imports for Thai buyers, though the view is a bank projection rather than a current price move.
