Rice farmers in Ghana's Volta, Upper East and Northern regions report a market glut, with more than 50,000 bags of paddy unsold in Ho municipality alone. Imported rice selling at lower prices has compounded the problem, and farmers are asking the government to intervene.
Cheap imports undercut local paddy prices and leave farmers unable to repay loans, which could reduce future local planting and shift Ghana's demand toward imported rice.
