The rand strengthened almost 2% to 13.31 per dollar on Wednesday after Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen's congressional testimony weakened the dollar against a basket of currencies. The move reversed part of the rand's earlier losses.
The dollar's decline was broad across major currencies.
A stronger rand lowers the local cost of imported feed ingredients, while a weaker dollar generally supports dollar-priced commodities. Yellen's comments on the Fed's rate path are the main driver.
