India's government is reportedly overhauling foodgrain inventory management to remove scenarios where public stockholdings would have to be exported. The move aims to reassure WTO members worried that surplus grain from food security stocks could be sold abroad at subsidised prices ahead of WTO talks in December.
Reducing the likelihood of Indian public-stock exports removes a potential source of cheap rice and wheat supply on world markets, which is mildly supportive for export prices of these grains.
