Malaysia's Plantation Industries Minister urged France to reject an EU resolution on palm oil and deforestation and to accept Malaysia's MSPO certification scheme. He said the resolution and French environment minister support for it could act as a non-tariff barrier to Malaysian palm oil exports to the EU.
Norway's proposal to exclude palm biodiesel from EU renewable energy rules was also raised.
Potential non-tariff barriers on Malaysian palm oil exports to the EU could redirect volumes to other markets and weigh on Malaysian palm prices if the restrictions take effect.
