Indonesia launched a government program to replant 20,000 hectares of smallholder palm oil plantations in 2017, conditional on ISPO certification. Officials estimate about 2.4 million hectares need replanting, and replanted smallholder yields could rise substantially.
Higher yields from replanting would expand future palm oil supply, which is mildly bearish for prices over the long term. The program's limited scope means the near-term effect is small.
