Experts warn that Mexico's guaranteed price program for corn, beans, wheat, rice and milk could add inflation pressure and distort competition if poorly executed. A former competition regulator says the corn purchase price of 5,600 pesos per tonne is well above the 4,000-peso market price, risking losses and fraud.
If the state pays well above market and limits imports to support the program, Mexican feed and food grain demand could shift, affecting import flows for US corn and wheat.
