The EU processed 156.8 million tonnes of whole milk in 2018, with two-thirds used for cheese and butter. The EU produced 10.3 million tonnes of cheese and 2.4 million tonnes of butter, and Germany was the largest cheese producer.
The data shows how EU milk is allocated across dairy products, which helps buyers gauge the balance of supply between cheese, butter and powder. It gives no new signal on near-term price direction.
