Global stocks of diesel and other middle distillates have fallen to their lowest seasonal level since 2008, according to a Reuters column dated March 11, 2022. The column warns that the shortage could push oil prices sharply higher unless crude and distillate supply rises or economic growth slows enough to ease diesel demand.
Low distillate stocks raise the risk of an oil price spike, which would lift diesel and freight costs for feed producers. Supply response is slow, so the upward pressure could persist.
