UNCTAD says the Russia-Ukraine conflict has disrupted Black Sea logistics, halted Ukrainian port operations, and raised insurance and fuel costs. Dry bulk transport prices rose about 60% between February and May 2022.
Global sea exports of grain are projected to fall 3.8% this year, and around 36 countries import over half their wheat from Russia and Ukraine.
Reduced Black Sea grain shipments and higher freight costs tighten wheat supply and lift import prices for feed buyers. Higher ton-miles and shipping scarcity keep the cost of global feed grains elevated.
