India's trade directorate banned exports of maida, semolina and wholemeal atta, adding to the earlier May wheat ban and the atta restriction. Exports of these items are allowed only with government permission in certain cases.
Banning these wheat products removes additional Indian demand from export markets, which pressures wheat and milling-product prices lower in exporting regions while supporting them domestically.
