An analyst says recent large drops in wholesale pork cut values and hog prices are not supply-driven, since slaughter and pork output have run close to forecasts. He attributes the weakness mainly to exports, which were down 4.8% year on year in July and have been a drag on wholesale demand all year.
He also notes USDA's export data reporting has been delayed.
