The rupiah slipped from a two-month high to around 15,000 per US dollar on April 3, 2023, after Indonesian March inflation eased to 4.97% year on year, below the 5.17% expected. Analysts also cited risk-off sentiment after OPEC+ announced a surprise output cut of about 1.16 million barrels per day.
The OPEC+ cut raised oil-driven inflation fears and supported the dollar, which weakens the rupiah and raises the local cost of imported feed. Softer Indonesian inflation partly offset that pressure.
