Industry leaders from the US, Canada and Mexico called for better protection against foot-and-mouth disease and BSE. The US cattlemen's president challenged Brazil's BSE testing capacity and compliance with WOAH standards.
The remarks were made at the Canadian Beef Industry Conference on August 16.
Disease risk and trade-access disputes can shift beef export flows and cattle prices across North America. The panel is advocacy rather than a new event, so the price effect is small.
