A NASA Earth Observatory map shows forecast El Niño impacts on crop yields in southern Africa, based on FEWS NET crop yield and soil moisture data. The graphic was released April 24, 2024 and links to food insecurity in the region.
The map reinforces expectations of weak southern African harvests, which supports maize import demand, but it adds little new supply information beyond existing alerts.
