The USDA allocated $165 million in emergency funding to stop New World screwworm from reaching the US. The money will fund surveillance, animal health checkpoints, and eradication efforts in Mexico and Central America.
The US paused cattle imports from Mexico last month after the pest was found near the Guatemala border.
The funding supports the continued import pause, which keeps feeder supplies tight, though the spending itself has limited direct price effect.
