StoneX analysis shows the fertilizer-to-corn price ratio at historically poor levels, with potash the worst on record and UAN and urea also near the top of the historical range. Fertilizer prices surged at the end of June after US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and talk of closing the Strait of Hormuz, while corn prices kept falling.
Expensive fertilizer relative to corn may reduce application rates and push farmers toward lower-input crops, while falling corn prices squeeze margins. Iran is a major urea exporter, so Gulf disruption raises urea prices.
