The rupiah closed 0.90% weaker at 16,499 per dollar on Friday 29 August amid domestic political tension and US economic strength. Most Asian currencies also fell against the dollar, while the dollar index rose 0.12% to 97.93.
Analysts expect further weakness early in the following week.
A weaker rupiah raises the local cost of imported feed ingredients. The move is driven by currency flows rather than a shift in supply or demand for agricultural commodities.
