The Trump administration plans to raise the tariff-rate quota on Argentine beef, with Reuters reporting an increase to 80,000 metric tons from 20,000. Ranchers, rural lawmakers and farm groups have criticized the plan.
A larger quota allows more lower-cost beef into the U.S., adding supply in a market already short of cattle. Producers fear it will cut cattle prices even if consumer savings are small.
