Indian 5% broken parboiled rice was quoted at $348-$353 per metric ton, down from the prior week. The rupee fell to a record low, and about 400,000 tons of Indian basmati were held at ports and in transit as freight rates more than doubled after the Iran attack.
Surplus Indian supplies and a weaker rupee lower export prices, while higher freight costs stall deals and add to the downward pressure on Asian rice values.
