Industry players say earlier government policy errors on palm oil, including an export ban from late April to May 2022 and low cooking oil ceiling prices, caused producers to hold stock and created shortages. The government is considering advancing the mandatory B40 biodiesel program while cooking oil prices remain high.
Speakers at the International Palm Oil Conference in Bali highlighted lost Indonesian market share in India to Malaysian palm oil.
An earlier B40 start would absorb more palm oil into biodiesel and tighten domestic and export supply, which is bullish for palm and soy oil prices. Repeated policy interventions also add supply uncertainty that tends to lift risk premiums.
