Chicago soybean, corn and wheat futures plunged on Monday as fresh coronavirus lockdown concerns triggered a global risk-off move. Wheat fell 3.7 percent, its biggest daily drop since August 2019, and soybeans settled down 2.1 percent despite a USDA report of a 132,000-tonne private sale to China.
Analysts said funds were heavily long soybeans and liquidated positions while investors sought the U.S. dollar.
Broad risk aversion and fund liquidation pushed grain prices lower, and a stronger dollar makes US exports less competitive. Buyers of feed grains and meal may see softer near-term prices, though the drop was driven by sentiment rather than a change in supply.
