Farmers planted the second-fewest winter wheat acres on record, with Kansas down 13 percent, Oklahoma down 10 percent and Colorado down 6 percent, for an overall drop of about 10 percent. Growers are shifting acres to other crops.
Lower US winter wheat plantings reduce future hard red winter supply, but high stocks limit the price effect and some acres moving to feed crops may add to corn and sorghum supply.
